Current Watchlist

People ask what I’m watching. I answer like it’s a weather report.

It is not one vibe. It is many vibes, in a trench coat, pretending to be a single person.

Right now I’m watching:

  • Black Jesus
  • Boondocks
  • Sliders
  • Saved By The Bell
  • OZ (the HBO show)
  • House Of Cards
  • The Cosby Show
  • Seventh Heaven
  • Louie
  • Paula’s Best Dishes
  • 19 Kids and Counting
  • I Am Jazz

Do these belong together? No. Do I belong together? Also no.

How I choose

  • If I had a long day: I pick something familiar.
  • If I’m cleaning: I pick something I can half-listen to.
  • If I’m in my feelings: I pick something comforting.
  • If I want chaos: I pick something that makes me say “OH MY GOD” out loud.

I do not judge my TV habits. I simply observe them like wildlife.

Quick update: I have learned that “one episode” is a lie I tell myself to stay hopeful.

My Ritual (Not Dramatic, Just Sacred)

I don’t do “TV time.” I do TV Corner. It’s a whole situation. A small ceremony.

Step-by-step

  1. Lamp on. (Overhead light stays OFF.)
  2. Blanket selected. (Cats vote with their bodies.)
  3. Remote located. (This is the quest portion.)
  4. Snack within reach.
  5. One pillow behind my back so I don’t get up like an old folding chair later.

The lamp is non-negotiable. The lamp is the therapist.

What the room needs

  • A clear surface for a drink.
  • No clutter in the walking path.
  • Soft light in the corners.
  • One place where the cat can sit without stepping on my ribs.

Just noticed something interesting: “comfort” is a layout problem AND a lighting problem.

A warmly lit, layered room with lamps and a calm evening atmosphere.

My house is not a showroom. It is a place where I live, rest, and recover my spirit after errands. The TV Corner is where I return to myself. (And where the cats return to my lap.)

House Rules (TV Edition)

My rules

  • No doom-scrolling during a show. I am either watching or I am not.
  • If I’m folding laundry, I pick something easy to follow.
  • If a show stresses me out, I stop. I am not being held hostage by entertainment.
  • If the room feels tense, I tidy ONE small surface. (Not the whole house.)

I’m not strict. I’m protective of my peace.

The lamp clause

Overhead lights are for finding lost objects and confronting reality. TV Corner is for softness.

  • Warm bulb
  • Shade on
  • Corner light on
  • No harsh glare on the screen

If I walk in and squint, something has gone wrong.

Small Notes (From the Sofa)

I like TV the way I like my house: cozy, familiar, and not trying to impress strangers.

Sometimes I want something light. Sometimes I want something intense. Sometimes I want to watch someone make a dish while I sit under a blanket like a content raccoon.

Things I say out loud

  • “Why would you DO that.”
  • “That’s not your friend.”
  • “Oh my God, here we go.”
  • “Turn the lamp down.” (to no one)
  • “I knew it.” (I did not know it.)

I am a polite person. Unless I’m watching TV. Then I become an analyst.

My comfort-watching tells

  • Blanket pulled up to my chin.
  • Snack bowl refilled.
  • Cat appears like a weighted blanket with fur.
  • I stop “multitasking” and just sit there.

If I stop fidgeting, the show is working.

The TV Corner is not about television.
It is about recovering my spirit after errands.

Cat Involvement

Cat roles

  • Jasper: remote control investigator
  • Daisy: blanket quality assurance
  • Mabel: doorway security (no one enters without approval)

They do not pay rent. They do, however, provide ambience.

Cat policies

  • No snacks left unattended on the coffee table.
  • All new blankets must be “tested.”
  • If a cat sits on you, you are legally not allowed to move.

I don’t make the rules. (Actually I do. But they ignore them.)

A relaxed cat lounging as if it owns the sofa.

This is the face of someone who has never searched for a missing remote in their life.
